Role Overview
The Mobile Clinic Driver is responsible for the safe operation, transport, and basic maintenance of the organization’s mobile health clinic. This role ensures the mobile unit is positioned, set up, and operational at community partner sites. The driver supports patient access to care by maintaining a reliable, safe, and compliant mobile environment, while assisting the care team with logistics and site readiness. The role is accountable for delivering measurable results aligned with departmental and organizational goals and ensuring alignment with our company vision and core values.
Areas of Accountability
This position is directly accountable for the following key areas:
• Vehicle Operation and Safety
o Safely operate and transport the mobile clinic to and from designated partner sites.
o Conduct pre- and post-trip inspections, ensuring the vehicle is in proper working order.
o Follow all Department of Transportation (DOT), OSHA, and organizational driving regulations.
o Maintain accurate driving logs, mileage reports, and trip documentation.
• Vehicle and Equipment Maintenance
o Perform basic maintenance checks (oil, fluids, tires, lights, battery, generator).
o Coordinate scheduled service, repairs, and inspections with Facilities staff.
o Ensure the mobile unit is fueled, stocked with supplies, and ready for deployment.
o Report on any vehicle issues immediately to the Director of Facilities & Maintenance.
• Site Logistics and Setup
o Ensure proper placement of the mobile clinic at partner sites (safe entry/exit, utilities, ADA compliance).
o Set up necessary equipment such as awnings, signage, safety cones, and ramps.
o Assist clinical staff with power supply connections, generator startup, and temperature monitoring for vaccines/medications.
o Support privacy and safety requirements for patients entering and exiting the mobile unit.
o Provides general health education, family planning support, and HIV/STI counseling, testing, and referrals within a Federally Qualified Health Center.
o Assists with patient navigation, follow-up, resource applications, and supports community outreach events and partnerships.
o Collaborates with medical staff, documents encounters, and engages diverse community members to improve access to care
• Compliance and Documentation
o Maintain vehicle inspection logs, registration, insurance, and licensing documents.
o Ensure mobile unit is prepared for inspections and regulatory surveys (OSHA, Joint Commission, local/state).
o Follow infection prevention and control protocols during setup and breakdown.
o Respond to vehicle-related emergencies (breakdowns, accidents) and follow organizational reporting protocols.
Education, Licensure/Certification:
• High school diploma or equivalent required
Experience, Skills/Abilities Related Requirements:
• Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL Class B with air brake endorsement preferred).
• Minimum 2–3 years of experience operating large vehicles, buses, or RVs; healthcare mobile unit experience preferred
• Clean driving record required. Strong ability in safe vehicle operation, navigation, and adherence to traffic and DOT regulations.
• Knowledge of DOT, OSHA, and ADA requirements
• Demonstrated competency in vehicle inspection, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting
• BLS Certification within 90 days
• CHW Certification within 120 days
• Knowledge of primary care, HIV/STI, mental health/substance use resources preferred
• Must be culturally competent and comfortable working with diverse populations
