Role Overview
The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner is responsible for delivering comprehensive adult psychiatric and addiction treatment services, including active participation in our Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) and Medications for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD) programs. This role is accountable for delivering measurable results aligned with departmental and organizational goals and ensuring alignment with our company vision and core values.
Areas of Accountability
This position is directly accountable for the following key areas:
- Conduct adult psychiatric evaluations, formulate diagnoses, and develop individualized treatment plans.
- Prescribe and manage psychotropic medications for adults and MAT/MOUD therapies, including buprenorphine, naltrexone, and other approved medications for those enrolled in addiction services.
- Provide follow-up care, medication management, and support for patients engaged in psychiatric treatment, substance use recovery and mental health treatment.
- Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team including physicians, therapists, case managers, and peer recovery specialists to ensure coordinated, patient-centered care.
- Perform risk assessments, crisis interventions, and safety planning as needed.
- Educate patients and families about psychiatric conditions, recovery principles, medication adherence, and harm reduction strategies.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record in compliance with organizational and regulatory standards.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, case conferences, and program development activities to strengthen Avenue 360’s behavioral health and MAT/MOUD services.
- Master's or Doctoral degree in Nursing from an accredited institution.
- Certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC).
- Current, unrestricted license to practice as an APRN in the state of Texas.
- DEA license with X-waiver (or eligibility and willingness to obtain).
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with a commitment to health equity and culturally competent care.
Experience, Skills/Abilities Related Requirements:
- Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in psychiatry, behavioral health, or substance use treatment preferred.
- At least 1–2 years of direct clinical experience providing psychiatric care in outpatient, community mental health, or integrated primary care settings is preferred.
- Prior experience working with individuals with substance use disorders, including providing or supporting treatment for opioid use disorder, is strongly preferred.
- Experience working with diverse, underserved, and/or high‑acuity populations in a
- Demonstrated ability to perform comprehensive psychiatric assessments, formulate
- Proficiency in psychopharmacology, including initiating and managing medications for mental health conditions and MAT/MOUD agents such as buprenorphine and naltrexone.
- Ability to manage co‑occurring mental health and substance use disorders, including risk
- Working knowledge of addiction medicine principles and recovery‑oriented care,
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to build rapport, engage patients in shared
- Ability to work effectively within an interdisciplinary team in a collaborative, integrated care model.
- Demonstrated professionalism, reliability, and adaptability in a fast‑paced community health setting, including openness to feedback and participation in quality improvement.
- Proficiency with OCHIN EPIC and CMBHS
