Overview:
The Staff Accountant assists the finance department with monthly closings, financial reporting, account and budget analysis, and performs various general ledger maintenance duties.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain general ledger by posting, verifying, reconciling transactions, and resolving discrepancies.
- Conduct monthly and quarterly account reconciliations to ensure accurate reporting.
- Maintain fixed assets and associated depreciation schedule.
- Reconcile monthly accounts to ensure accurate reporting and ledger maintenance.
- Prepare monthly and annual adjusting entries involving balance sheet accounts and income statement accounts.
- Prepares payroll and/or works with contracted Payroll Administrator to ensure accurate process of payroll including exporting payroll reports and payroll entries and updating employee master files.
- Prepares entries for employee benefits including insurances and 401K.
- Work closely with the grant team with payroll allocation for employees allocated to grant programs.
- Review, investigate, and correct errors and inconsistencies in financial entries, documents, and reports.
- Review staff account work and provide suggestions when issues are encountered.
- Identify control issues and recommend corrective actions.
- Assist in reviewing, analyzing, and evaluating the grants budget process, assuring compliance with generally accepted accounting principles, standards, and procedures.
- Assist with preparing documents for grant reviews and Medicare cost report by preparing assigned schedules and other requested materials.
- Prepare documentation for External Auditors.
- Assis with preparing annual tax return.
- Assist with the monthly and annual end closes.
- Assist Controller and Executive Vice President of Finance with financial reporting.
- Other functions as assigned by the Controller and Executive Vice President of Finance
Education, Licensure/Certification:
- Must have bachelor's degree in accounting or finance from accredited institution
Experience, Skills/Abilities Related Requirements:
- 1 year experience in similar position
